Prophets to Nineveh

Leaders believe themselves invincible in their fortresses, but the Lord of hosts will leave no enemy unjudged. Discover in Nahum how God destroys every safe place and shames those who rebel against Him.

The Assyrian empire seemed invincible, but it went up against God's people. Nahum describes in poetic imagery how a swift, organized army would devastate the city no one believed could fall. God will attack and defeat His enemies.

Messing with God's people is messing with God. In Nahum 1:9–2:2, the Lord destroys His enemies and sets His people free. Discover how sin, death, and Satan have already been defeated and how to live in that freedom.

The prophet Nahum presents God without filters: jealous, vengeful, powerful, and good. In Nahum 1:1-8, this word addressed to Judah—a people oppressed by the Assyrian empire—reveals both the severity and the goodness of God. He will not leave the guilty unpunished, but He is a stronghold for those who take refuge in Him. Ultimately, only in Christ can we find refuge from God's wrath through God's grace.

Jonah got angry when God showed mercy to Nineveh. Why does the human heart resist grace for those we consider unworthy? Jonah 4 reveals our hidden idols and points us to the One greater than Jonah who rejoiced in saving sinners.

Five words were enough to shake Nineveh. Jonah 3:1–10 shows how God uses his Word to confront sin, produce genuine repentance, and grant mercy to hearts that turn from evil.

In Jonah 1:17–2:10, Jonah reaches the lowest point and finally cries out to the Lord. This sermon shows why we need a true spiritual diagnosis, why idols cannot save, and why the gospel’s hope is simple and sure: God saves everyone who cries out for salvation.

God calls Jonah to preach to Nineveh, but Jonah runs. Jonah 1 exposes a selective heart, confronts rebellion, and highlights God’s mercy toward people we’d rather exclude—because the gospel is for everyone.
